Parish Church

The original old church of Saint-Thomas-de-Courceriers exists only in part because the Romanesque choir was rebuilt over an indeterminate period and two chapels, dedicated to St Barbe and Ste Anne were built in the 17th century.

Of the chapel of Ste Anne (1676) the only remains are three statues from the altar (inscribed ISMH), the tabernacle and the relic of the saint. In 1670, François Orry, priest of St Eustache in Paris (but originating in Saint-Thomas-de-Courceriers) obtained, with the agreement of Queen Anne of Austria, a fragment of the relic of Ste Anne held by the Parisian brotherhood of Ste Anne.

The reliquary was carried out in 1669-1670 by the Parisian master goldsmith René Hébert as evidenced by the marks "A couronné", his hallmark.

The current neo-gothic church was built from 1859. The construction was started with the tower and the nave; the latter, longer than the Romanesque nave, required the creation of a "crypt" to compensate for the slope. The additional cost of work and damage caused by lightning in 1864 delayed the consecration until 1878 during the episcopate of Bishop the Hardy of the Marshes.
